We were in Santa Cruz recently for the Afro Wig Photo Shoot event and stopped by Pacific Thai restaurant for lunch. Santa Cruz is surprisingly close to us, only an hour drive from South San Francisco!

I have to say that the restaurants are pricey in Santa Cruz, pricier than the ones in San Francisco. I guess I’m accustomed to lunch specials. Pacific Thai has no lunch specials. So after getting over the price point, we ordered Chicken Satay, Duck Curry, and Pineapple Fried Rice.

These dishes were definitely good choices. This was the first time I have every had Duck Curry and the first time I have ever seen it on a menu. Duck and curry make an unexpected great combination and compliment each other well. The mildly spicy curry sauce and the succulent, juicy duck satisfied. This could be the new comfort food.

Paring the Duck Curry with Pineapple Fried Rice completed the delicously satisfying meal. The Pineapple Fried Rice consisted of shrimp, onions, cashews, chicken, pineapple, tomato, and rice. This was really, really good… so good that I want to learn how to make it.

The service is a bit slow but the food makes up for it. And it is run by a Thai person.
