On a rainy afternoon, my husband and I decided to have afternoon tea at Samovar Tea Lounge in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens. We have walked by the Lounge a few times and it has always been brimming with people. But on this day, Samovar Tea Lounge was noticeably empty, due to the rain. We were delighted to have most of the place to ourselves. I had the English Tea Service and my husband had the Japanese Tonsu Box and Ryokucha.

Japanese Tonsu Box & Ryokucha $17

Poached Silken Tofu w/ Yuzu Shoyu, or Wild Smoked Salmon, Braised
Japanese Eggplant, Sesame-Wakame Seaweed Salad, House-made pickles,
Brown Rice, Seasoned Nori, Squash-Miso Soup.

To tell you the truth, when I saw the Japanese Tonsu Box, I was envious and immediately wished I had ordered that instead. Thankfully, my husband let me have his Japanese Tonsu Box. It’s healthy and yummy at the same time. The Japanese Tonsu Box comes with Ryokucha Tea.

Ryokucha Tea

The Squash-Miso soup is deliciously delicate with little bits of lentils and carrots. I also really liked the Sesame-Wakame Seaweed Salad with its creamy dressing. We used the Seasoned Nori to wrap up rice with salmon and seaweed. Yummy! The Ryokucha Tea is thick and creamy, a unique texture for a type of Genmaicha Tea.

English Service & Breakfast Blend $19
3-Tiered Platters of: Shitake Mushroom or Wild Smoked Salmon Quiche,
Scones, Devonshire Cream & Jam, Fresh Fruit.

Breakfast Blend Tea

The traditional English Tea Service is not like the one at Ritz Carlton of course. But at $19, it’s a deal if you want to try traditional English tea. The Salmon Quiche is freshly baked. The scone was quite dry though, but that’s what the Devonshire Cream and Jam are for. Definitely, the Japanese Tea Service is much better and more filling as a meal. Next time, I want to try the Indian Tea Service which features one of my favorite teas – Chai!

Samovar Tea Lounge is open from brunch to dinner with the same menu all day. Enjoy a snack of waffles or try a full tea service which can be a meal. The tea service is more affordable than other afternoon tea services that I have had.

While on my quest for yummy yogurt, I discovered Trader Joe’s Matcha Green Tea Yogurt. Matcha is a fine, powdered green tea that has a more robust flavor and more caffeine than regular green tea. It also contains a lot of antioxidants to keep you healthy. And Matcha green tea and yogurt go amazingly well together. Matcha green tea yogurt makes a great breakfast, snack, or dessert, with its smooth, creamy, and balanced flavor.

Yo Baby, yo baby, yo! Yes, that is baby yogurt you are looking at and it is fantastic! I don’t even know how I got started eating Stonyfield Farm’s Yo Baby Yogurt. (But I am not ashamed!) Maybe it was because Yo Baby yogurt is organic, and low in sugar, only 13 grams of sugar in a 4 oz container. Most other yogurts are way too sweet for me and the serving size is too big. Yo Baby yogurt is just right. Since the yogurt is made with whole milk, it has a buttery, creamy taste, which lends itself as a great, healthy dessert or breakfast. It doesn’t have too much fat since it is only a 4 oz. portion. What you’ll notice when you peel off the cover is that Yo Baby yogurt is topped with a layer of velvety cream… dee-licious! Yo Baby’s vanilla flavor is my favorite. I wish the 6 pack was all vanilla, instead of 3 packs of vanilla and 3 packs of banana. I’ve tried the berry flavors, but they’re not as good as the vanilla and banana yogurt. If Yo Baby yogurt is good enough for babies, it’s good enough for you!

While food shopping for my birthday party at Costco, I discovered Stacy’s Pita Chips, Simply Naked, 1.5-Ounce Bag (Pack of 24) .Mind you, Costco only sells things in bulk so I took a chance on a big bag of Stacy’s Pita Chips, Simply Naked flavor, which is only flavored with salt. From the first crunch, I found these pita chips to be incredibly addictive. Stacy’s Pita Chips can be eaten with a dip, but I like it plain. To give you an idea of what it tastes like, the Simply Naked flavor reminded me of Wheat Thins, but with a heartier crunch. Other flavors I have tried are Cinnamon and Sugar, reminiscent of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and churros, and Parmesan Garlic and Herb, featured in the above photo.
