If you’re looking for a good dim sum restaurant without having to go into San Francisco, then Tai Wu Restaurant is the place to go. Just 10 minutes away from San Francisco, Tai Wu Restaurant in Daly City offers modern decor, great service, delicious food, at a convenient location. It located in the King Plaza Shopping Center (across Classic Bowl) and is a popular choice for dim sum in the Peninsula area. Dim sum is served daily, from basic dishes like shrimp dumplings and shao mai to specialty dishes like ginger flavored egg custards (yummy!) and jellyfish with nuts.

For heartier fare, try ordering from the ala carte menu for an assortment of fried rice, chow mein, and other specialty dishes. Tai Wu’s Diced Chicken and Salted Fish Fried Rice is a winner. Just like in many Chinese restaurants, special requests can be made. We asked in Chinese if they could make a “Ha Moon Mai Fun”, which is thin rice noodles with a sweet and sour, tomato based sauce. And they made it! This dish is great for those who need to watch their carbs. Don’t worry if you can’t speak Chinese, the staff is fluent in English as well. Food is moderately priced but well worth it.

Go early for dim sum as it can get overwhelmingly crowded after 12pm on weekends. The restaurant seems to be the most crowded on Sundays, with long waits, so plan in advance. Free parking is available in the King Plaza shopping center or on the surrounding streets.

Tip: If you don’t know what kind of tea to order, try “Gook Bo”, which is a combination of Chrysanthemum tea and Pu-erh tea.
