I was so excited to attend the Fancy Food Show in San Francisco’s Moscone Center for the 3rd time! The Fancy Food Show is an international gourmet food show where food companies debut their newest products before it reaches stores. The show is also a venue for food companies seeking distribution in grocery stores and restaurants.
I went on Sunday with my husband. This time I felt a little more prepared and less overwhelmed.
I have grouped my posts according to different categories – ethnic foods, tea, drinks, and snacks. Brace yourselves, this is the 1st of 4 posts about the Fancy Food Show. Enjoy!
With the Bolani people
East & West Gourmet Afghan Food, a family owned business, makes awesome Bolani. This is their first Fancy Food Show! What is Bolani? It’s an all natural, thin flatbread, folded in half with a vegetable filling. Bolani is low calorie, low carb, low fat, and low sodium. Yet it’s high in flavor and completely satisfying. My favorite Bolani fillings are spinach and pumpkin.

Bolani and Sauce
You can toast them up in the toaster or a pan. They have a wide array of sauces to go with the Bolani. My faves are garlic mint cheese, lentil curry, and sweet jalapeno. So delicious, healthy, easy-to-digest, and even vegetarian! You can find them on Saturdays at the Alemany Farmer’s Market and on [Read more →]

New at the Fancy Food Show – Blue Bottle Coffee gelato (ingenious!), Bolani, alcoholic tasting drinks made with no alcohol, all natural guava and lychee juice (no sugar), hippie chips, barley coffee, and chocolate flavored stevia. Photos to come.
I find it funny that some of the vendors remember us from previous shows, like Suhki’s Indian Cuisine and O.N.E. coconut water. They took care of us.
I did have an anaphylactic reaction [Read more →]

I have been so addicted to Blue Bottle Coffee lately. Every time I go to the Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building, I have to get a cup of their chocolately smooth drip coffee. Blue Bottle Coffee tastes like no other coffee because the beans are freshly roasted in small batches. The beans are dark roasted, yet the coffee doesn’t have a burnt taste like other dark roasted coffees.

If you get drip coffee, the coffee is manually dripped (above) through a porcelain coffee filter
. Freshly ground coffee is placed in a paper filter within the porcelain coffee filter
. Hot water is poured on the coffee grounds, letting the coffee drip through.
I have also tried their rich and smooth mocha. I’m guessing they use Scharffen Berger Cocoa Powder
because the cocoa has a soft, subtle taste. And Scharffen Berger is located inside the [Read more →]

Soy Sauce Ramen
Yum! Santa Ramen in San Mateo, CA is my favorite ramen noodle restaurant. I just crave their ramen all the time. To be honest, I have gone to Santa Ramen 6 times in the past month.
Their ramen is 10 times better than Iroha in San Francisco’s Japantown. What’s special about the ramen at Santa Ramen is the hearty, flavorful broth. Made of stewed fatty pork, tiny bits of garlic, and a lot of love, the broth calls my name. And I gladly answer. Ramen is total comfort food for the winter.
Miso Ramen
What I also like about Santa Ramen is that they specialize in ramen. There are only 3 ramen noodle soups on their menu – Miso Ramen (my favorite), Soy Sauce Ramen, and Pork Flavor [Read more →]
