Nothing says love like chocolate! Why not make a cup of steaming hot chocolate for yourself or someone you love? It’s fast and easy, I promise, and it won’t be from a mix. With unsweetened cocoa powder, you can control the amount of sugar added and get that authentic coffeehouse taste. Cocoa powder is actually healthy, if you can believe it. Cocoa powder contains more antioxidants than green tea and red wine!
I tried many different brands of cocoa powder – Ghiradelli (too sweet) and Scharffen Berger (too clumpy). Then I found Green and Black’s Organic Hot Chocolate, which is the only one I use. Green & Black’s organic cocoa powder is a product of the UK. You can find it at natural food stores. To get the coffeehouse taste, use whole milk. You can also substitute this with soymilk.
What you will need:
Small saucepan
Measuring cup
1 tsp. Green & Black’s cocoa powder
1 cup of milk or soymilk
Sugar to taste
Whipped cream (optional)
1. Measure 1 cup of milk.
2. Pour a little bit of cold milk into your drinking cup and add 1 tsp. of cocoa powder to the milk. Stir until a paste forms. This will help dissolve the lumps of cocoa powder.
3. Heat the rest of the unused milk in a small saucepan until it steams.
4. Add this to your drinking cup and stir well.
5. Add sugar to taste.
